Online registration for obtaining new Ration Cards was introduced in Karnataka not only to ensure distribution of the cards to the eligible families but also to end bogus card menace.
Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Shobha Karandlaje, addresssing a press conference here today, said the Online registration comes into force from tomorrow.
Those who don't have Ration Card can apply sitting anywhere.
She said while in urban areas people can visit http://ahara.Kar.nic.in and fill up the form with all details required, in rural areas, people have to visit Panchayat offices where necessary arrangements were made for registering their names by paying Rs 10.
''It is compulsory for rural people to go to the concerned panchayat offices and submit the application through their computer systems.
''We have adopted this new procedure in order to ensure that the right of the people is protected,'' she added.
