Noted Malayalam poet and lyricist Mullanezhi died this morning at a private hospital here following cardiac arrest.
He was 63.
He was admitted to hospital yesterday following cardiac problem.
Mullanezhi Neelakandan, popularly known as Mullanezhi, started his career as a teacher and later, switched over to writing lyrics for Malayalam films.
He had penned lyrics for over 64 films, including Vellam, Mela and Sanmanassullavarkku Samaadanam.
It was for Indian Rupee, released this year, he penned last.
Entering the film field by writing a song for 'Lakshmi Vijayam' for music director Shyaam in 1976, Mullanezhi won the best lyricist award in 1981 from the Kerala Government.
He had also won the Kerala Sahitya Acadamy Award during 1995-2010.
Besides, he had won the Ullur Award in 1977 and Naalappadan Award in 1989.
He had also acted in few films including Uppu, Piravi, Kazhakam and Neelathamara.
